House upholds Truman veto killing tax cut bill
Washington June 17 The House voted 268 to pass the bill over the veto and 137 against. The veto override failed by two votes. Republicans 233 and 35 Democrats supported the override while 134 Democrats, two Republicans Carl Andersen and Hull, and Marcantonio of New York backed the President. Democrats applauded as the roll was announced. The action delays any tax reduction this year and signals a year of campaigns over tax policy.
