In Washington, a new pension law for Spanish American War veterans became law after Senate approval 61 to 18 and House 298 to 14. Democrats opposed President Hoover, while Administration dependables supported his stance and Western Independent Republicans joined the Democrats.
London June 3 Premier Ram say MacDonald secured his first victory on the London Naval Treaty in the House of Commons defeating the Conservative motion to appoint a committee to examine the treaty. The vote stood 282 to 201 with Liberal support for the Government. The attack was led by former Premier Baldwin.
Grover Cleveland Alexander, veteran pitcher and one of the NL's greats, is released by the Philadelphia National League club. Management announced today that Old Pete has been unconditionally released, indicating the end of his major league career.
Raymond T. Chapman begins boxing at age eleven in Port Smith Arkansas and will pilot the 1931 Virginia Military Institute boxing team.
The U S Supreme Court ruled that under ordinary circumstances a buyer of bootleg liquor cannot be prosecuted as an offender merely for purchasing illegal liquor. In the Farrar v Boston case the court avoided ruling on conspiracy charges in the delivery and purchase chain. It also upheld a Philadelphia bootlegger case where a New York banker pleaded nolo contendere and had his conviction sustained. Continued on Page Two.

In Jacksonville Florida the Democrat primary faded with little conflict as cats seeks Congress in the Third District and Ruth Bryan Owen faces Dewitt Deen in the Fourth District while Republicans fail to qualify a candidate and party factions clash over control of the state committee.

The Reese plan for private operation of Muscle Shoals would lease the plant to a private operator for an 8500? limited profit with 8 percent return. It requires 10900 tons of fixed nitrogen to be produced within three years six months and sets annual nitrogen output by a three member board appointed by the President. Sales prioritize farmers and cooperatives with price set to cover production rent and capital costs.

Washington reports Alaska money in a pending Department of Agriculture appropriations bill. The line items include 8,000 for new building construction at an agricultural experiment station and 16,000 to buy or build a boat for Alaska. Other funds cover fur bearing animal research, reindeer and musk oxen improvements, and a headquarters building for a wat[?] at Fort Yukon.
In Chicago on June 3 an attempt to murder Mrs. Lottie Dechow occurred as she slept. A would-be assassin fired two shots through her bedroom window after she had risen minutes earlier to check on her sister’s room. Dechow had accused her young husband, self-styled Count von Buelow, of marriage under a false name.

Cordova Times survey in Cordova Alaska on enforcement modification or repeal of Prohibition laws shows 369 votes with 24 for Enforcement 71 for Modification and 274 for Repeal.
After a weekend of gang violence that left eight dead and four wounded, Chicago police intensified a major roundup. More than 100 alleged gangsters were in custody within hours, with officials predicting up to 200 in cells by dawn.
R F Lewis president of the Juneau Water Company and longtime city resident arrived Sunday on the steamer Alaska from San Francisco. He will stay several days to inspect the water system and discuss improvements with municipal authorities, hoping to return for a longer stay later in the season.

Two posse divisions clashed and opened fire near Bellaire Michigan as they hunted four men suspected of robbing Antrim County bank of 500 dollars. Dr. J R Georger was seriously injured before capture. Robbers not yet caught.
Padlock actions will be started against Fraternity Clubs and buildings after a raid by Prohibition agents impersonating college men. Assistant United States Attorney Watts said the raid occurred about a month ago and the amount needed to close the building will be determined.

Thirteen inmates at the State Hospital for the Criminal Insane in Intra Michigan attacked guards with knives and razors, captured two guards, and escaped. Two fugitives were recaptured within miles. the rest remained at large as countryside warnings were issued. Inmates’ cells had been opened and twenty four other prisoners released before the escape. Superintendent Robertson cites limited facilities for confining eighteen dangerous men in a ward.
Graf Zeppelin began the final leg of its four continent journey from Lakehurst New Jersey at 9 12 pm EST to Seville and Friedrichshafen. It crossed New York City at 9 55 pm drawing crowds as it sped east over the Atlantic toward its western Europe return.
