In Anchorage on June 2 a gasoline heater explosion at the Sourdough Barber Shop sparked a blaze that destroyed eight more businesses on Fourth Avenue between C and D streets. Firefighters and citizens fought the flames, preventing spread to nearby areas. damage estimated at $50,000 with no insurance. Loss includes Union Cafe to Parker Grocery Store, plus Dick's Kitchen, two poolrooms, a ladies' barber shop, a cigar and soft drink shop, and a small eating place.
