Seattle July 1 Millions of rein deer raised by native and white herders will soon convert Alaska into a vast meat producing territory according to Edward W Nelson chief of the Biological Survey who is en route to Nome to organize a staff of wardens for protection of the animals with A M Bailey of Juneau as chief Dr L Hadwin pathologist of the Biological Survey and two other animal experts and naturalists will accompany Nelson on the trip north Hadwin will be stationed at Unalakleet and Donald Stevenson at the Aleutian Islands station where he will also promote sheep raising It is proposed to grade up a number of fine reindeer for breeding purposes as nuclei for the herds expected to be developed Mr Nelson said today he understood two ice plants with a capacity for freezing 100 carcasses daily will be built in Alaska this summer but not TP reennesay Company has leased extensive tracts in the north for reindeer pastures and is thought to be behind the proposed ice plants.
