Brig. Gen. William Mitchell, Assistant Chief of the Air Service, warned that in a national emergency the United States might be forced to ally with a great war power to preserve its existence. He said the faulty defense system could place the country in a subordinate role to a wiser but poorer nation.
Seattle February 26 news notes a seven member special committee led by J K McCormack of Spokane plans to raise 300000 to finance Central and Eastern Washington seed wheat production. Grain Belt Company organized with McCormick as president to manage capital from Seattle Spokane and Tacoma. Funds will be loaned to farmers at eight percent interest following Gov Hartley’s veto of the seed wheat measure.
Berlin reports President Ebert underwent an appendectomy on Tuesday but developed peritonitis and remained in serious condition on Wednesday. The illness intensified after the operation, with doctors monitoring his status closely as officials canceled nonessential duties.
Alaska's Head George Alexander Parks was named and quickly confirmed by the Senate to succeed Gov. Scott C. Bone. Parks, then in Washington, planned to depart for Juneau to supervise engineering work on an existing program and would remain in his current post until taking office on June 15.

Vuea Perovich, later at Leavenworth, killed Jacobs in 1905 at Deadman's Slough near Fairbanks. He stood trial before Judge James A. Wickersham, was convicted, and sentenced to the scaffold, which was even built. Leroy Tozier defended Perovich with funds from Peter Vidovich, who died in New York en route to his homeland with a fortune sewn in his clothes.
Chicago reports that jury service for women will be a key topic at the National League of Women Voters convention in Richmond Virginia April 16 to 22. Blanket warrants for the arrest of 18 Democrats who fled from Indianapolis yesterday in the Gerrymandering bill dispute were served on 16 in Dayton Ohio. Jerome Brown said they defied his authority and refused warrants and would pursue them. He later announced James Nejdl, Indiana Senate President pro tempore, ordered him back to Indianapolis.
Manila February twenty six. The Flagship Huron of the Asiatic fleet, which went aground in Palawan Sea yesterday morning, was floated at midnight. The move restores ship to position with preparations underway for return to service.
London report notes Rev Cyril R Brown, parish magazine editor, banished undertakers advertisements from the Littleover Derby publication. He argues the depictions are depressing and prefers focusing on the living, urging undertakers to follow doctors and dentists in refraining from such ads.
In San Francisco on February 26 a man called Lou and Ralph P. King were arrested for conspiring to kill Mr and Mrs Fred Hotaling, wealthy city residents. The plot emerged when poisoned milk was found. Louis Madison identified as Lou and King admitted paying 3300 to Madison and a man named Al. Richard Hotaling plans to testify to the grand jury while disputes over Anson P. Hotaling’s estate, valued at 4.5 million, have persisted for years.
Dellwood has sailed from Seattle for Alaskan waters to repair two breaks in the Alaska cable caused by the recent earthquake shock. The Seward end of the Seward Valdez cable and the cable between Valdez and Cordova are damaged.
New York Feb 26 The Russell Sage Foundation reports that United States Steel Corporation's wage policy largely fixes steel workers pay across the industry. Five year study of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company's representation plan shows workers secured an eight hour day ahead of rivals but lack real wage influence. The plan marks progress yet limits by following rivals' scales including the Steel Corporation.
