The Civil Aeronautics Board concluded the Alaska Airlines DC-3 crash near Homer on January 20 was likely caused by the pilot flying off the established airway at too low an altitude to clear terrain. Three passengers and two crew died when the aircraft hit Ptarmigan Head. the pilot survived with serious injuries and could not recall events before impact.

Dog musher resumes Alaska to Maine trek in warmer weather
