In Cochran e Ontario the Queens Hotel burned trapping residents on upper floors. About ten died and four more are missing or unaccounted. Charles Palangio and his wife and four children perished after the son escaped to save them. The hotel housed 100 guests and the fire caused an estimated 75 000 dollars in losses. Seventy five men escaped. some injured jumping from windows.
