Wild gales across Copper River flats halted rescue of three fishermen aboard the Yasure. Coast Guard Cutter Spencer and Forest Service vessel Chu gach paused efforts as storms and thick ice hindered landing. Lane’s Home Fire on Fox Isle Destroys Residence
Fire on Fox Isle destroyed the home of Mr and Mrs Ed Lane at Coughlin Island Auk Bay while Lane and a partner pelted foxes. The blaze started after the men left the house to trap. No one was hurt but the four room home and furnishings, including Mrs Lane’s fine furniture and her mother Mrs John Plack’s items, were lost. Loss estimated 3000 to 5000 dollars with no insurance. The fire likely started from a flooded burner in the oil stove. Seventy five fox pelts were in the pelt house but none were lost in the home fire.
