New York reported Captain Eric R Bloomaquist of the tanker Charles Prom said only two American seamen were lost after the Pan American vessel sank off the West African coast near Freetown while carrying 6,000,000 gallons of oil from Aruba. Initial reports claimed 22 Americans perished and the cause remains under investigation.
