Army Air Corps expands to 52 squadrons for global defense
The War Department ordered 52 new Army Air Corps squadrons to reinforce defenses in the Caribbean Pacific and continental United States. The 23rd Base Squadron is organized at March Field to head to Alaska and the 28th composite group with the 27th Bombardment Squadron forms at Barksdale and also heads for Alaska. A squadron holds six to 18 planes and a group contains two or more squadrons.
