Leaders Seek Peace Pinpointed in Truman Remarks

Catholic Primate Mindszenty Arrested in Hungary

Dewey backs special Republican convention plan

Wilmerow Governor Dew ey urged Young Republican leaders at a University Club dinner to call a special Republican convention to decide whether the GOP should stay conservative or adopt a new liberal image. The idea, urged by Philip Willkie, has won support from Warren, Stassen, Aiken, Flanders, Smith and Morse.

Leather from Salmon Skin by Pacific American Fisheries

Pacific American Fisheries announced a new leather from salmon skin as a by product of fish processing. The leather is smooth pliable non-porous and can be tanned and dyed. Four Alaska canneries Kasaan King Cove Alitak and Nushagak used the skinning and boning machines this year with a smaller pack at Friday Harbor.

Property income taxes indorsed by Demos at Anchorage

A well regulated property tax and a territorial income tax received unanimous endorsement last night at the Anchorage Democratic Club meeting. We back the tax program advocated in the territorial platform, said a club official, adding we are not in favor of a sales tax. Senator Victor Rivers discussed forthcoming legislation to be taken up at the special and regular territorial legislature sessions.

Peace hopes fade as Communists publish war crimes list

Spy probes seek two more couriers in Communist rings

Washington dispatch says congressional investigators for the House Un-American Activities Committee plan to pursue at least two additional couriers for Communist espionage rings. Rep Mundt notes no conclusive proof yet, but says circumstantial evidence points to Red couriers near Elizabeth Bentley with possible Communist government links.

Attorney General speaks to Lions about territory session

Attorney General Reaph Rivers spoke to the Lions Club on the extraordinary session and revenue measures. Capt. Johanson of the Salvation Army thanked Lions for aiding the Christmas drive that netted about 500 dollars, up from 215 last year, with funds supporting dinners and gifts for families and children.
