In Seattle Roy R. Thornton 45 manager of the Alki Natatorium died Christmas morning after falling 13 feet from a balcony. An autopsy cites heart attack as the cause though initial reports blamed the fall. He previously ran night clubs in Ketchikan and Seattle and an inquest was planned for the next day or Thursday. In Ontario Callander Dionne quints enjoyed roast turkey for the first time at a Christmas reunion with their parents and six other children, sharing a formal dinner with adults for the first time.
In Moscow on December 27 Soviet authorities arrested the plant director and six employees on bootlegging charges for printing and smuggling Soviet Railways tickets at reduced prices. GPU agents said tickets were sold at a twenty percent discount, with possible death penalties under sabotage laws if convicted.
