A fire at the Chicago State Hospital for the Insane in Dunning destroyed a dormitory for tuberculosis patients. Fifteen patients died from burns or smoke, with at least three more believed dead. About thirty five hundred patients were in the complex. a dozen dangerous inmates remain at large as authorities search for the fire's cause.
Washington Dec 27 hearings opened before the immigration committee on a bill to replace the expired per cent quota law. Chairman Johnson introduced a measure to fix quotas at two percent based on the number of nationals here under the 1890 census.
