Squatters resist attempts by Alaska Juneau Mining employees to lay an electric line from a transformer to the tunnel mouth on hillside land claimed under millsite. A marshal took an axe from Mrs. Hyde, no arrests made, civil suit pending. The company aims to light the change room to shuttle workers, while dispute over title continues.
The remains of G Lassila, a Finn killed by a shot fired by Gust Jwusola at Tenakee, will be buried from the undertaking parlors of W Young. The coroner s jury met yesterday and continued its final hearing until witnesses could be secured, and a doctor s certificate of the cause of death has been given. Attorney Z R Cheney represents Jwusola, who does not deny the killing but on his attorney s advice will not discuss it.
Miss Gudrun Marie Monsas and Mr John Eugene Thorgerson wed in a private ceremony at Trinity Episcopal Church Rectory with Rev. G. E. Renison officiating. Witnesses were Mrs. J. E. Barragar and Mrs. G. E. Renison. The couple will reside at the Perseverance mine where Thorgerson works for Alaska-Gastineau Mining Company.
Crowds thronged the streets on Christmas Day as restaurants and amusements were packed. Merchants and business men report pleasure with the volume of trade, crediting extensive stock and diverse goods for strong sales and little disturbance.
Springfield, Mo. December 27. Missouri files suit against the St. Louis and San Francisco railroad for 2 million dollars alleging excess rates charged to shippers and travelers since the state rate laws took effect. Attorney General John T. Barker leads the case. validity of the Missouri law has been in dispute as railroads continued old rates pending decision.
E. C. Briggs and John Kayser were fined $25 each by Police Magistrate J. B. Marshall for speaking on the street in violation of city ordinance No. 125. They refused to pay and will serve the fines in jail. A demanded jury trial did not occur as the jury failed to materialize. Kayser muttered about a Kangaroo court and taunted officials, claiming Juneau is owned by big companies.
Ross and John Fayne were arrested by Officers Pull and Wheeler for violating city ordinance 125 as they harangued a crowd. They expect a daily pair of speakers while the ordinance stands. Briggs and John Kayser, jailed for the same offense, refused to clear the snow and were placed on a limited diet.
The Seattle article reviews Godfrey Chealander, once Alaska commissioner to the Lewis and Clark fair, then promoter of Alaska expositions, now returned to town as a Mabton farmer. It notes his roles in Seattle and the Northwest and his recent pivot away from public life to farming.

Washington December 27. The organization committee drafting the Federal reserve system outlined plans to mark regional district boundaries and select reserve cities. Public hearings will hear fourteen candidate cities including Boston New York Chicago St Louis Denver Seattle Portland San Francisco Los Angeles Houston New Orleans Atlanta Cincinnati and Cleveland. The law sets eight to twelve reserve banks.
Paul Stensland former president of the Milwaukee Avenue State Bank who fled with about a half million in 1906 is repaying depositors. It was found yesterday he placed over 250000 dollars with James Keeley as trustees for the depositors.
Skagway and Whitehorse merchants contribute to a fund backing Dr. L S Sugden to film the White Pass route to the Chisana diggings. Contributions from Skagway residents total between 400 and 500 dollars.
The H. J. Raymond Company honored its workers Christmas Day. Manager D. M. Evans received a Waltham gold watch and chain engraved with his initials. D. H. Delzelle, clothing department manager, was given 40 dollars, while other employees got 20 dollars each.

Lexington Kentucky. December 27. Solo mon Jackson and Tate Saunders both of Pineville near here fought a fatal duel yesterday after a quarrel. Under an arrangement they clasped left hands and held loaded revolvers in their right. At a signal they fired and both were killed.
President Moyer of the Western Federation of Miners was attacked and severely beaten in the Hancock district while on federation business. He was shot and wounded, dragged a mile, and placed on a train after the assault. Officials blame gunmen hired by the Citizens' Alliance. 25 assailants reportedly struck him in his room, then attacked him in public.
Authentic Costa Rica advices indicate Lord Cowdray agents still seek vast oil concessions. A radically different contract is being prepared after Congress refused the previous proposal. US government agents in the field may block negotiations to prevent concession approval. New York Dec. 27 The American Express at 106 Friday slumped 195 points from its 1910 high, marking a record decline in value as trading opened today.
The northeast corner gate of Fifth Avenue and Forty first street in New York sold for £175 a square foot, a new high for Fifth Avenue land. The earlier record was about $163 a square foot a few years ago, signaling rising property values on the avenue.
The Missouri Oklahoma and Gulf railroad has been placed in the hands of a receiver after a Baldwin Locomotive Co creditor suit. The receivership stems from a Paris bank failure that financed the road, which runs about 35 miles from Denison Texas to Baxter Kansas.
