They forced through barbed wire and police lines, pledged support for comrades who seized the terminal in a coup yesterday, and demanded free transport to Nanking to deliver protests.
Los Angeles December 24 grand jury hears threats against two witnesses in the Thelma Todd death case. Alex Hourie head waiter at the restaurant where Todd attended her last Hollywood party testified about life threats to keep him from testifying. Jerry Cummings Santa Monica Christmas tree lot proprietor said two men warned him not to speak about Todd's death. The grand jury continues its probe into the mysterious death found with the actress in her car.
President Roosevelt stated that 3.5 million able bodied persons is the correct estimate of those in need and that the four billion dollar work fund will not cover more. He warned that exceeding the figure would leave the fund insufficient to go around.
Mrs Virginia Shearer Bradley a civic worker from a pioneer family died in San Francisco at age 92 She was mother of President Philip R Bradley of the Alaska Juneau Gold Mining Company in Juneau Alaska She is survived by two other children thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren
Port Orchard Washington December 24 Judge HG Sutton refused a new trial and sentenced Leo Hall to hang in the state. In Seattle Peggy Peterson Paulos, acquitted co defendant, filed suit to have her marriage to Larry Paulos annulled as the complaint said she wed Paulos not knowing her previous divorce was not final.
San Francisco news reports a 24 ship Pacific Coast freighter tieup extended at least 48 hours as peace talks paused until after Christmas. Labor hearings were pushed to December 26. Last week nineteen vessels lost crews in disputes over work day length and overtime pay while others idle as winch drivers seek higher wages.
New York December 24 Imported silver for commercial use fell another cent an ounce to 49.5 cents, the lowest price since September 27, 1934. This marks a fresh decline in the metal's market value as buyers react to current supply conditions.

John Coomes 17 of Springville Utah died in hospital after a basal skull fracture from a boxing contest at a Provo area resort last night. His opponent Lou Petro Provo Utah faces no action at this time as the investigation continues.
London December 24. Robert Loreine famed actor and early British military figure died after an operation. He led a glamorous career with over fifty stage roles and served as a machine gunner in the Boer War. Loreine also made the first flight across the Irish Sea in 1910.
In Chicago on December 24 a Christmas spirit move by governors and parole boards frees or plans to free more than 1,000 inmates across 18 states. About five hundred released will return home to celebrate with their families.
United States prison inspectors reported 44 percent of 2 804 jails inspected cannot hold Federal prisoners, Sanford Bates disclosed. A total of 1 273 jails barred as unfit or unsafe, reflecting widespread confinement concerns.

John F. Weber a 65 year old liquor store operator died after two robbers kidnapped him beat him and forced him to disrobe in a school yard. The robbers escaped with $44 taken from Weber and authorities reported he died from shock and exposure.
In Ketchikan Alaska on December 24 the first commercial haul of herring in ten years was made by local fishermen. The catch is reported as good quality with some fish taken within 200 feet of the dock.
