HONOLULU December 22 A tank landing ship 1135 damaged in heavy central Pacific seas proceeded toward Johnston Island under its own power. Vice Admiral Jonny L Hall commanding the Hawaiian Sea Frontier said the ship was 500 miles west of Johnston with nine patrol craft en route from Pearl Harbor. The 1135 carries a crew of 50. several other ships battered by storms last week are also en route to harbors under their own power or tow. The report notes a Christmas tree installation in Juneau by the City and Alaska Electric Light and Power Co with the tree cut and erected by the City Street Department.

CAA inspectors cannot explain the cause of a helicopter crash and explosion that killed two men, newspaper executive C. Sim Tucksill, 83, and Ambrose M.
