William Jennings Bryan, a National Democratic Convention delegate candidate, said Henry Ford's endorsement of President Coolidge will backfire and hurt Coolidge. He argued Ford's candidacy was seen by Republicans and Democrats as a protest against reactionary policies of many party leaders.
Spokane dispatch reports Republican State Chairman Hebber calling Henry Ford's endorsement of President Coolidge a sign of the nation's independent voters. Democratic State Chairman Clarence Martin counters Coolidge would benefit from fewer Fords and Rockefellers in his campaign.
Chicago December 22 the Coolidge Presidential management says it played no role in South Dakota efforts to remove Senator Hiram W Johnson from the Republican primary ballot next spring.
Cyrus H. K. Curtis, Philadelphia publisher, buys the New York Evening Post, the city’s oldest continuously published daily. The paper, founded in 1801 by Alexander Hamilton and associates, has featured editors including Hamilton, Bryant, Godkin, White, and Ogden, with Garrison Villard’s ownership prior to Lamont and Gay. Curtis heads the Curtis Publishing Company and owns several major titles.
Washington December 22 The Senate committee of Mines took up a bill to create a Department of Mines with full supervision of mining and distribution of fuel and other minerals. Hearings will be held after the holidays.

MINNEAPOLIS Minn Dec 22 Several girl employees of the International Stock Food Company working on the second and third floors of the building when it burned late yesterday afternoon are believed to have lost their lives.

In Long Beach California on December 22 a jack-rabbit racer train derailed after a man attempted to jump between cars. One person died and 14 were injured when the cars struck a post during the plunge and collision. The seaman B Ellitt of the U S S Clara was involved in the risky jump.
SEATTLE, Dec. 22. Mayor Brown and City Council members weigh authorizing bonds totaling one million dollars to complete the Skagit project. Engineer Ahden informed the mayor that costs would exceed the original eleven million, issued at twelve and a half percent.
Seattle December 22. Steamer Victoria sailed at 9 o clock this morning with 49 passengers bound for Juneau. Listed travelers include M. S. McSpadden Mrs V C Clausen C C Personnous and wife Byron Personnous Mary Conner and Mrs Co J Wyatt. The Victoria will call at Prince Rupert Hyder Haines and Skagway along with other regular ports of call on this trip.

A group of armed men and trucks attacked the Gwynbrook distillery warehouses in Maryland. Guards were shackled, two buildings were broken into, four men captured by federal agents, and over 40 barrels of whiskey valued at $60,000 stolen. Several gang members fled amid gunfire.

Two men, Louis Dotson and Hoffel Brown, indicted by a Federal grand jury for conspiracy and rape aboard the Admiral Evans on a voyage from Ketchikan to Seattle. The 16 year old Indian girl Margaret Sutton, a Chemawa student, identified them as crew members in the steward's department. The case stems from an incident between Ketchikan and Seattle on October 3.

Frank I Cobb aged 54 died at his New York home after a long illness. The longtime editor of the New York World, Cobb was hailed as one of America's greatest editors, chosen by Joseph Pulitzer in 1904 to lead the paper. He began in Kansas, worked in Detroit, then ruled the World with independent, fearless editorials.
