Drought relief bill advances to Hoover after Congress action
In Washington December 20 Congress approved a 45 million dollar drought relief measure to loan farmers in drought areas for next year's crops and sent it to President Hoover. Democrats criticized the bill for lacking direct food loans and it passed without a roll call amid preChristmas planning. The Agriculture Department said funds are not needed before Christmas and should follow holidays for start of work.

Two Grafts Collide In Dense Fog Sink Oberon
In heavy fog off Laso Island the Finnish steamer Oberon collides with the Arcturus and sinks within four minutes. Freighter and Dredger Meet in Collision Near Golden Gate
The Jefferson Myers, a 4825 ton Quaker Line freighter from Philadelphia, and the dredger McKenzie collided outside the Golden Gate. Both vessels proceed under their own power with no great damage reported. The cause is unknown and the dredge was working on the bar outside the gate. The weather was clear.

Two Ships in Collision Off Yarmouth Early Morning
Seventeen crew members from the freighter Glen Derry were rescued at Yarmouth after the Hedworth rammed and sank the Glen Derry overnight. The Hedworth sustained minor damage while the Glen Derry sank rapidly as the two vessels jammed together.
