British airmen sight Nazi warships in the North Sea convoy with a torpedoed German cruiser. A submarine breached German nets and torpedoed a cruiser, while German reports cite an underwater explosion but downplay damage. President Roosevelt at Hyde Park avoided commenting on Tekes and McNutt political rumblings.
Air Ministry reports night attack by British air force on German seaplane bases at Borkum Norderney and Salt Islands. German ships watched with searchlights but did not interfere and no anti aircraft fire occurred.
A Congressional Committee led by Senator Thomas of Oklahoma urges immediate enhancement of U S air defenses after touring army bases air fields and arsenals from Connecticut to the Panama Canal Zone The group backs developing superior anti aircraft guns and placing them with specially trained defense units.
In Paul Minnesota on December 15 Secretary of Agriculture Henry Wallace again predicts President Roosevelt will seek a third term. Wallace’s earlier third term forecast drew White House rebuke and a denial from Roosevelt. Democratic Senator Burton Wheeler of Montana also spoke on the program, saying the President will not run for a third term.
Winnie Ruth Judd the so called crazed murderess who escaped from the State Hospital at Phoenix on December 3 was captured on Yumas main street. She walked nearly 180 miles across the desert before being spotted by Patrolman Henry Stahl and taken into custody without resistance.
Moscow radio launches sharp attack on Swedish Social Democrat leaders and the Social Democrat organ branding them slaves of capitalists and imperialists. It praises the Red Army for aiding the Finnish Democratic Republic and accuses critics of unsel fish work. It mentions Geneva and the League of Nations only vaguely through outside reports.
The Juneau Woman's Club organizes the annual Christmas tree event at Front and Seward Streets with Alaska Electric Light and Power Company wiring the lights. Ernest Oberg will play organ for a program broadcast on KIY, featuring church groups and local carols. Marquees on the streets promise protection while residents attend or listen from home.
Finnish command reports the destruction of a Russian destroyer by coastal batteries and the capture of 20 tanks after 24 hours of fighting in the Suomussalmi region, with additional Russian losses and Finnish victory indicated.

Preliminary census figures show Petersburg population at 1268 up from 1252 ten years earlier while Hyder District drops to 97 from 313. Glacier Highway counts rise to 299, then 839.
