Air Force flyer survives 15,000 foot fall in Alaska
Fairbanks Alaska December 13 An Air Force radar observer 1st Lieutenant Edwin T Berry of the 449th fighter weather squadron at Ladd Air Force Base plummeted 15000 feet from an F 94 during a flight and was rescued after two and a half hours. Capt Glenn Jackson piloted the failing craft and the rescue party including a helicopter C 47 and LC 126 located him by flares. Night time rescue may be first of its kind in Alaska. Berry suffered shock and facial cuts and may have been blown from the plane after a canopy and fuel tank were stripped by wind at 400 miles per hour.
