U S Air Transport Command reports six survivors among 29 American servicemen aboard a huge transport plane that crashed near Goose Bay Labrador. Rescue hampered by wet snow and stormy weather, with names of the dead and survivors withheld pending a full report.
President Truman defended a ten point program to curb living costs and said he will submit specific wage and price control legislation to Congress within days. He criticized GOP proposals and asserted no relaxation of anti trust laws while he is president amid debates on inflation and proposed voluntary measures.

In Rome the general strike halted vital public services and rail traffic as police and military were deployed. Government and labor leaders planned a five hour conference to resolve the dispute. The Chamber of Labor reported no illegal activity and awaited a midmorning meeting with the Ministry of Labor to decide if workers would return to duty tomorrow.
Washington December 1 Senator Butler proposes legislation to transfer to the Alaska Native government all authority now held by the Internal Department over the Territory. The senator says this measure is a further step in his plan to solve the Indian rights problem and speed Alaska's development.
Washington December 11 The House passed a 590000000 stop gap foreign aid bill after six days of debate with no amendments. The bill totals 990 million for France Italy and Austria and 60 million for Christian tide counties over one winter. The Senate had objected to House changes and appointed a committee to craft a compromise acceptable to both branches.
Washington December 11 The Interior Department would be permitted to set up tourist accommodations along highways and on public domain in Alaska under a bill introduced by Delegate Bartlett The department would be authorized to construct and operate tourist accommodations including lodges buildings and camps and could hire personnel to operate them without regard to Civil Service laws.
Ten Santa’s reindeer flew from Nome to Anchorage then to Detroit for a Santa’s Work Shop display in Dearborn Michigan. They will continue to Seattle and east, with Ed Butters of Cold Water Minnesota arranging transit. The trip marks a rare permit to move live reindeer out of Alaska amid pre Christmas events.
The Ladies' Auxiliary of Taku Post Veterans of Foreign Wars will elect a new treasurer at tomorrow night's regular meeting. They will discuss holiday season splits, membership applications, and plans for the December 20 Auxiliary Food Sale at Parsons Electric Store. The meeting starts at 3 p.m. at the VFW Club Rooms on Seward Street. Doughnuts and coffee will be served afterward. full attendance is requested.

Secretary of Defense Forrestal reportedly would not resign despite questions. A telegram porter asked about Forrestal leaving, and President Truman firmly stated his answer was categorical, denying rumors of resignation and citing Roy Call as an engineer referenced in the exchange.
In the House of Commons an all party committee urged a 28 000 pound rise in the annual Princess Elva belt allowance to 40 000 pounds. The panel also recommended a 10 000 pound yearly grant for Prue Php, her brigroom.

Rome December 1. Maj. Gen. L. Daynes announced the last American forces will depart Italy for the United States for Christmas. Final depictions will sail from Leghorn by the Army transport Adgel Sims to clear Pala Jeremonial waters before midnight Sunday December 14.
London reports the British Board of Trade says an agreement on the main points of the British Soviet trade pact has been reached. Harold Wilson, returning from Moscow, will report to Prime Minister Attlee and may make a Commons statement. The Bowker News Agency notes progress on small points.
Two Missouri-Kansas-Texas passenger trains head on near Neve Texas collide last night and explode in flames. Two trainmen die, nine injured, and two crewmen are missing. The wreck occurred ten miles south of Here at about 11:40 p.m. CST as cars piled atop each other and telescoped. Victims named include B Coleman of Waco and George W Suathurape of San Antonio. Missing engineer Poy Cal away and porter Will Manry are listed as unaccounted.
Seattle December report says the Alaska Development program shsuld be prepared by the Seattle Chamber of Commerce Alaska Committee. The plan aims to seek federal support in Washington DC for congressional action, with promises from lawmakers to back tenure. The committee cites poor transportation and Interior Department attitudes as barriers and proposes using Indian reservations to accelerate development.

At a board meeting the Kiwanis Club voted to give $500 to the Juneau Memorial Library Fund. The donation came from a campaign that culminated in the awarding of a Plymouth car to supporters. Directors passed a resolution thanking the public for their generous cooperation.
