The Alaska railroad bill faces general debate next Wednesday in Washington with Delegate James Wickersham opening in favor. Supporters expect a vote that day and regard the measure as an administration asset likely to pass, uniting the majority party behind its passage.
Judge KR W Jennings dismisses a delinquent tax suit by the City of Juneau against Emery Valentine and others for want of jurisdiction. The council order failed to show it authorized the required notice publication, though the clerk’s notice complied with law. Dismissal does not bar future action.
The handsome residence of Harry J. Raymond on Gastineau Heights is nearly finished with only a few finishing touches left. The Raymonds expect to move in next week.
The Odd Fellows' building has undergone extensive repairs for weeks and is now practically completed. Foundations have been entirely renewed, marking a major feature of the project and signaling readiness for use.
The Stolen Symphony is a two reel musical drama by the Lubin company playing the Orpheum tonight and tomorrow. It follows a struggling composer and an unscrupulous artist with leads by Arthur Johnson and Alice Joyce. Also featured are From the Submerged and From Susan to Susan, a comedy with Florence Turner.
Charles A. Sulzer, manager of the Alaska Industrial Company in Sulzer Alaska, will leave Alaska shortly after January 1 on an extended vacation and spend his trip in the East. Also noted are local advertisements for a restaurant sale on Gastineau channel and a ready to mail house gift line from Winter and Pond Co. plus diaries for 1914 at Nelson's.
Juneau Lodge No. 420 Elks held a session with two new baby elks noted. Allen Shattuck and Ly man M Thayer received honors. A social hour followed the lodge services ending with a clam bake. Clams supplied by A P Pond from Petersburg for the expedition.
The Dispatch Publishing Company sues Surveyor General Charles E. Davidson in district court today to determine if the $15 local corporate tax applies for 1913 or becomes effective in 1914. The action is friendly, aiming to secure a court ruling. Several hundred corporations may owe the tax if due now.

T. W. Saegers, popular amateur baseball player and longtime bookkeeper for the C. W. Young company, has resigned and left for Portland Oregon to start his own business. Baseball fans say Walter S. McCreedie drafted him to play in the Northwestern league loan.
An important choir practice will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church this evening at 7 45. All members are urged to be present.
Higinio Queerada, accused of selling liquor to Indians, is under arrest and will likely have a hearing tomorrow in Judge J. B. Marshall's court.
San Francisco Dec 11 Willie Ritchie and Harlem Tommy Murphy both expected to fight for the championship but the bout is off due to an operation needed on Ritchie’s nose. The cancellation shocks boxing fans and leaves the title status unclear with no new date set.
Alaska painter Leonard M. Davis shows works in the Henry building. Mayor Cotterill supports establishing a municipal art gallery with Alaskan paintings. The plan proposes the public library as a suitable site to display the picture.

Freedman is president of the concern. J. W. Sheldon of Nome is named as resident agent. New notary L. Be. Van Winkle of Juneau has been appointed a notary public by Gen. J. F. A. Strong. Arnot Hendrickson, who went South for eye treatment, returns on the Alameda departing Seattle today.

The Seattle Carnival Association voted to eliminate the 1914 Golden Potlatch and instead plan a grand aquatic celebration in 1915 to honor the completion of the Panama Canal.

Nome, Dec 11. J W Winter, a noted mining man, has optioned several claims on Cooper gulch and nearby grounds to San Francisco parties who plan to install a large dredge to operate the area. This adds another dredge to the famed beach line. The, project signals intensified activity in Nome’s mining district as spring approaches.
