Army Planes Forced Down During Alaska Maneuvers
Two Army planes carrying personnel and equipment for the 2nd Infantry Division in Alaska were forced to land due to motor trouble with no injuries or damage. A C-2 packet ship carrying 14 soldiers and a four man crew made a prior forced landing at Northway from faulty carburetion. Lt. Cal Roy E. Hunger strike at McNeil Island prison protests meatless meals
Prisoners at McNeil Island Federal Penitentiary on Puget Sound began a hunger strike to protest meatless Tuesdays and eggless Thursdays. The administration today submitted proposed legislation to Congress to permit rationing of meat, gasoline, and other commodities. Shipwreck suit for $100000 filed over Alaska loss
A damage suit for $100000 was filed against the United States Government today after the November 24 breakup of the army transport Clarksdale Victory near Hippa Island off the Alaskan coast. Forty nine men died and four seamen were saved. Mrs Lorraine Ruth Dehne, widow of 21 year old seaman Eugene Dehne, among the missing, filed the claim alleging negligence in ship operation.
