Wrangell Pioneer H D Campbell Dies at 79
Wrangell Alaska December 9 H D Campbell 79 pioneer of the gold rush days died here Saturday night after a week of illness from pneumonia and complications. Campbell came north from Portland Oregon in 1898 as a carpenter on the stern wheeler Elwood bound for the Klondike but remained in Wrangell freighting on the Stikine. He helped build many early and modern structures and served as deputy U S marshal in the Wrangell district under four presidents. Survivors include his widow two sons Ernest and Leonard Wrangell merchants three brothers Ernest and Leonard of Victoria and Josiah of New Perth Funeral services will be held here Tuesday.
