Alaska Juneau Gold Mining Company official L H Metagar replies to James Wickersham’s protest of the 1913 tax agreement. He argues the deal saved the city money by keeping services close and by avoiding separate mill facilities outside limits.
The Petaluma report describes a fatal shooting in which Mrs. Edlith Wagner confessed to killing William Kessler in a farmhouse near town after he threatened to return to his estranged wife. Police were summoned after she went to a show to think it over. Gertrude Keturi a 22 year old primary teacher at Fort Yukon committed death by her own action Friday morning. The reason is unknown per a radio message to the Territorial Commission of Education from Anna Hughes Principal of the Fort Yukon school. Keturi came to Juneau last spring with Loretta Gusky both were employed in Juneau and recommended as teachers. Keturi received her AB in 1988 and spent her early years in Flat Alaska with family in placer mining. She attended Broad Way High School in Seattle and the High School of Commerce in Detroit before college. Her death is described as a tragedy in a brief report from Alaska.
The FHA program launches in Ketchikan with 6000 dollars in loans from local banks. John Pegues, FHA Alaska director, reports broad bank participation and enthusiastic property owners while planning outreach to Skagway Wrangell Petersburg and Juneau.
Donald R. Richberg told the Academy of Political Defence that the long slow process on the trail of error is the New Deals pathway to economic recovery and is the sole alternative to state Socialism. Rome reports the government orders all citizens to surrender foreign credits held for exchange to the National Institute. Credits will be exchanged for lire at the current rate to be used for foreign payments and imports. The measure aims to stop the Bank of Italy gold hemorrhage.
The United States District Court returned a sealed verdict finding Moses Phillips guilty of manslaughter for the August 12 stabbing death of John Lindoff in Hoonah. The jury deliberated since yesterday afternoon and the judge deferred sentencing.
Delegate Anthony J. Dimond has shown vast improvement after surgery in Washington DC. E. L. Bartlett will become Assistant Director of FHA in Alaska, based in Juneau, arriving with his wife and daughter in two to three months. Bartlett notes FHA nationwide progress and renewed interest in Title 1 home modernization while visiting Spokane and Los Angeles en route to Juneau.
Oslo report says Arthur Henderson, president of the League of Nations Disarmament Conference, will be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize next Monday. Delegates note Anthony J. Dimond, recently released from surgery in Washington, is convalescing at his National Capital apartment and expects to return to work late this month. Hugh Greuel entered St Anns Hospital for a tonsillectomy.
In Geneva, Foreign Minister Laval declared France sides with Yugoslavia in the Central European crisis. He warned against attacks on King Alexander’s policy, urging the League of Nations council to prevent peace from being endangered amid Yugoslav tensions.
