Juneau’s quota of jobs under the CWA program, started in Alaska this year, was boosted to 60. Acting Governor E W Griffin announced the Alaska Road Commission faced heavy unemployment yesterday as men from across the Territory arrived seeking mining work. Two local projects were approved: Gold Creek improvement and sewer installation in Scatter Tract. Lighthouse at Five Fingers Is Destroyed
A fire of unreported cause destroyed the lighthouse at Five Islands this morning around 11 o clock. Wireless dispatches to the U S C G Tallapoosa say the boat house and carpenter house were saved and a temporary light was set on Rogers Host House. No crew injuries reported though personal property damage is unclear. Five Fingers Lights lie near the lower Stephens Passage just north of Cape Fanshaw and were a major Alaska beacon.
