Washington reports the American consul in Tiflis says a rumor exists that former Czar Nicholas has escaped. No details or confirmation have been received. Petrograd dispatches state Bolsheviki sailors and Red Guard detachments were sent to seize the guard over the former emperor.
Reports from the Russian delegation say under the temporal armistice with Germany, Berlin will transfer only the troop movements agreed on December 5 in line with the December 8 understanding.
Washington reports that Bolshevik supporters have entered Vladivostok. If confirmed, Allies may adopt a policy toward the Bolshevik government as vast munitions from the United States and Japan, intended for Russia during the alliance, are stored there.
British forces report occupation of ruined German dugouts in the Cam brai area as Germans retreat from devastated villages. They state they shelled Burton Wood and aimed at new trench lines while reclaiming trenches once used by Hindenburgs line.

The American destroyer Jacob Jones was torpedoed and sunk in the war zone at 8 p.m. Thursday by a German submarine with many lost and 37 survivors rescued from a life raft. Commanded by Lieut.
