Alexander Bruce Bielaski testified to the Senate Investigation Committee after resigning as chief of the Bureau of Inspection. He cited cablegrams from 1916 between Von Bernstorff and German propagandists naming Hearst papers and individuals such as Hale, Jor dan, Villard, Rumley, Harris, and Viereck as active or former pro German figures in the United States.
Stanford California December 6 David Starr Jordan urged he had no ties to Bernstorff and stated he was never pro German at any time in response to rumors of association.
A violent earthquake hit Vancouver at 12 45 AM lasting two minutes. Rumbling frightened residents as tall building occupants suffered nausea. Furniture and dishes toppled while many awoke. The tremor was felt in Seattle and Victoria.

President Wilson re nominated Charles E. Bunnell of Fairbanks as Judge of the Fourth Division Alaska and R F Roth of Fairbanks as District Attorney for that division for second terms. Roth began his first term in September 1914 and Bunnell in December 1914. Roth practised law in Fairbanks eight years before appointment. Bunnell practised in Valdez and was Democratic nominee for Delegate to Congress in 1914.
Washington December 6 The War Department abandons tying military prisoners to bars as a method of severe corporal punishment. Secretary Newton D Baker announced that the practice has been discontinued due to questionable effectiveness.
London dispatch reports that women who filled omnibus conductorette roles during the war will relinquish their posts as returning soldiers reclaim their jobs from the battlefields. Many ex-soldiers are applying for driving positions, and the conductorettes are yielding gracefully though passenger crush makes the work heavy for some.

Paris December 6 The Inter-Allied Peace Conference to deal with preliminaries will open December 17 and run to January 15. It is expected that Allies will reach agreement on demands and future plans during this preliminary phase. After it ends the actual Peace Congress will begin and German plenipotentiaries will be admitted.
