A massive mud landslide struck below Shattuck's mill at 4:30 this morning, wiping out eight cabins and two to three tents along the beach. A three year old Native child and an elderly Indian were reported buried, though efforts continued to locate victims as crews dug out debris and repaired the plank road. Buried seafarer H C Burkee and his companion escaped through a hole in their tent, while the widow of Chief Johnson sobbed over her wrecked cabin.
