Final census figures show Alaska at 128,643 and Hawaii at 499,794 as of April 1, 1950. Alaska gained 56,119 people, a 77.4 percent rise, while Hawaii added 76,464 residents, an 18.1 percent increase from 1940 to 1950. Alaska’s 1940-50 growth was the greatest since the 1890-1909 gold rush.
Anchorage reports more than six inches of snow on Sunday marking the citys first substantial snowfall of the season. The weather arrives weeks after blizzard conditions hit many other U S cities.

Born 1888 in Winona Wisconsin he once worked in Nome with the U S Mining Smelting and Refining Co in 1947. He wished to be buried in Juneau per his will.
Arvid Oberg a logger of Juneau and Myrna Gertrude Savage of Douglas have filed for a marriage license in the office of the U S Commissioner.

Joan Harrison a 24 year old woman in Fairbanks Alaska barely escaped death when her parachute failed to open until she was 150 feet from the ground. She landed in a snowbank and broke an ankle after leaping from a private plane piloted by Thomas Olsen. Harrison had been instructed by exhibition jumper Robert Sinclair.
Sydney reports a 100 degree heat wave hitting Victoria state in southeast Australia for the third consecutive day with dangerous temperatures and heat impact across communities.
Six nations including the United States Britain France Ecuador Cuba and Norway asked the United Nations Assembly to act immediately to stop Chinese Communist intervention in Korea. The memo argues for immediate consideration of China’s intervention with a view to recommendations. The Territorial Canvassing Board aimed to finish the October general election tally but five Fourth Division precincts remained missing and Valdez Third Division ballots had not arrived. Counts from 11 Fourth Division precincts yesterday did not change the standings. Wilbur leads Jones by 5 votes for the fifth Alaska House seat at 1829 to 1829. Valdez votes total about 149 and unlikely to alter Senate or House standings. The board will reconvene next Monday, December 11, to complete the canvass with a December 10 4 p.m. deadline for receipt of precinct ballots.

He conferred with Alaska Republicans for three hours while the radio was repaired and declined to comment on Alaska statehood or the ongoing Senate debate. In Tokyo he met General MacArthur as part of his world tour.
The November report from the local Weather Bureau office shows a cold dry month with most days below normal. Juneau airport records the lowest mean temperature since 1943, with 22.3 allowed by the month and 2.13 inches of precipitation, while city data shows 4.21 inches and 26.2 mean temperature.

Charles Miller 65 prominent Juneau and Fairbanks Alaska business man died Sunday in Virginia Mason hospital after a month long illness. Born in Yugoslavia he lived in the United States 45 years mostly in Alaska with a Fairbanks home. Surviving son Alex Miller of Fairbanks and three daughters Mrs Albert Vacarra and Mrs J Bradford of Fairbanks and Miss Nellie Miller of Seattle. Funeral will be at 7 p m Thursday in the Bonney Watson Chapel with burial in Juneau. He once ran a taxi service and before moving to Fairbanks owned a well known night spot.
George A Morlander administrative assistant for the Alaska Native Service schools store and reindeer held at Bethel is en route to Bethel from a vacation near Bellingham Washington He expects to leave by the end of the week.

Officials discuss three options, flagging possible complete defeat, partial loss, or a fragile foothold as Chinese Communist advances widen.
President Truman and Prime Minister Attlee reportedly agreed to return UN forces to Korea if disaster demands withdrawal and to avoid open war with China. They aimed to stabilize a defense line then negotiate with Peiping, while ruling out bombing Manchurian bases. The Eighth Army retreated toward South Korea as Chinese forces advanced, with Pyongyang captured and five divisions of the 10th Corps nearly isolated. Marines and Seventh Infantry could face a long fight through Changjin to Hungnam or require air evacuation. airlift odds were slim. China streams into Korea from Manchuria, threatening major escape routes from Hungnam and Wonsan.
Baranof remains in Seattle port and is set to sail westward at 5 p m. Princess Louise from Vancouver arrives at 9 tonight and departs for Skagway at 11 30. Denali is scheduled to sail from Seattle on Friday.
