Ship Explosion and Sinking Claims Thousands Lost

Reported near Shanghai the Kiangya, a 2099 ton China Merchants ship, exploded and sank with a death toll feared over 3,200. Officials cited overcrowding with 4,250 aboard and uncertain exact numbers, while rescue teams recovered about 200 bodies and searched the wreckage near the Yangtze river mouth.

General Fund of Territory Sees Shortfall at Year End

The Territory reports a General Fund shortfall of 589 870 33 dollars as of November with unpaid vouchers likely to reach 890 000 by year end. Auditor notes 647 874 3 against 77 217 10 on hand leaves a 569 870 33 deficit though funds withheld cover Old Age Pensioners. Geo M Berry 65 year old president of the International Pressmen's union AFL died at his PRESSMEN'S HOME Tennessee home at 6 15 am EST after illness. A former United States Senatorial member Berry led the union since 1897 and held several posts during Roosevelt's administration including Assistant Administrator of the National Recovery Administration.

Churchill appeals verdict in Juneau traffic case

City of Juneau vs Robert Churchill ended with a guilty verdict on speeding and not guilty on failing to yield visibility at an intersection. Jury recommended leniency. Magistrate William Paul Jr fined Churchill 50 dollars and bond set at 50 dollars. Churchill, operator of GR Churchill Cabs, posted 850 cost bond and bail bond of 50. Patrolman Lubcke brings statistics on Haines Highway

Mayer Weds Lorena Danker in Yuma Nuptials

Pulp Officials in Sitka Agree on Power Supply
