Greek shock troops drive to Porto Edda outskirts on the Adriatic while Italian forces retreat along the mountain front. Italian High Command reports renewed enemy attacks held in check by stubborn resistance and heavy artillery support.
A Federal Grand Jury charges 29 corporations including DuPont in a worldwide plan to fix nitrate prices used for munitions. Six Sherman Act indictments were presented to Judge William Bondy, listing 66 individuals and executives connected to nitrate handling across agriculture steel gas water and defense industries.
Grant R. Jackson of Nome Alaska, banker at Merchants and Miners Bank, lost 600 dollars and papers to a pickpocket in a Seattle toy department while watching children at Santa Claus headquarters. Police were told the wallet held currency and important documents.

The first December cold wave moved seaward with a sharp edge on the eastern states. Arctic blasts sent temperatures to record lows for the date in New York and sub zero readings across New England, while relief came to the Midwest as temperatures rose after a frigid spell. A survey shows Crete in the eastern Mediterranean has been converted into an armed camp by British and Greek forces. It notes that Italy’s Dodecanese islands east of Crete are effectively blockaded due to the Crete base.
New York December 4 Three persons were killed and five believed seriously injured when the Railroad Exposition Building at the World's Fair grounds collapsed during demolition. The roof caved in trapping workers under debris.
