A dated AP report describes American engineers taking rifles and fighting alongside British as they advance on the Cambrai sector. The Americans, nearly trapped and taking refuge in crater holes, engage German forces, marking a notable level of combat for the American expeditionary force.
Berlin reports on December 3 that German forces captured 100 artillery pieces on the Cambrai front as part of ongoing offensive actions.
German efforts to destroy a salient before Cambrai failed to gain tactical success. British forces resisted for three days while Germans won limited ground near Gonnelieu at heavy cost. Masnieres was evacuated by the British as they captured several hundred prisoners. Many Germans were killed. American engineers, rescued from crater holes, joined the British advance party and fought.
British headquarters report that German forces attacked Lavacuierie southwest of Cambrai. An hour later the British said the Germans had been repulsed after three prior futile attempts to take the village, with other attacks occurring the day before.
British forces last night re occupied a trench section south of Bourlon village on the Cambrai front. The army shelled Masnieres, a town they had evacuated, after last Friday's action.

All state banks urged to join the Federal Reserve System to fortify the nation during wartime.
