Siberia prepared to declare independence as HMNS counters on the Western Front, while Germans begin a move on the Western Front. Berlin War Office claims 4,000 British prisoners taken during the night lull.
December 1 The Teuton forces struck in strong mass formation, giving the British a tense hour. Today the situation is not causing uneasiness as no British guns were captured and casualties were heavy on both sides. British ground was not greatly reduced.
British lines watched as German forces launched a turning movement in the Cambrai sector. The British managed a retreat to save over the front’s troops after a first massed assault. They also destroyed several heavy guns that could not be captured.
