Berlin reports at least 43 and up to 62 Russian transports carrying troops were sunk in the Gulf of Finland by German mines and warplanes during the evacuation of Turlin. The Baltic Fleet reportedly lost a cruiser, four destroyers, nine minesweepers and three patrol boats, with further ships damaged or sunk.
A Senate Interstate Commerce sub committee, set up by Senator Burt Wheeler to probe war propaganda in media, faces pushback from movie makers led by Wendell Willkie. Critics call the probe unauthorised and biased, with Willkie planning to speak for opponents and label it a sneaky isolationist drive.
Carl Julius Schmidt 63, a member of the Kalt Schmidt dynamiting gang, was arrested in Detroit on a war rant charging theft from a freight car before 1922. He had been deported to Germany in 1922 after a prison term and admitted entering the United States illegally about a year after his deportation.

The Italian High Command reported that a Fascist submarine in the Atlantic sank a modern British destroyer of the Jervis type and a 2600 ton merchant ship. The announcement came this morning with no further details.

Keijo Doyle left Pittsburgh for Russia saying things weren’t right at home. He fought on the Eastern Front, was captured by Finnish forces, a photo from his high school yearbook notes he may become famous or die trying.
War Department officials disclose plans to release 200000 enlisted men by December 10 while maintaining total army strength through rapid replacement by new selectees. Some releases will include personnel in Alaska.

Paul Gordon chief of the Alaska branch of the Division of Territories and Possessions arrives aboard the McKinley in Juneau. He has been in the Territory three months visiting communities and is meeting Governor Ernest Gruening to discuss trip findings. He plans to stay several days before returning to Washington.
Mr and Mrs Ole Syre arrive from Excursion Inlet on a cannery tender and stay at Baranof Hotel while Syre serves as superintendent of the Astoriaae Sound cannery. A McGraw Hill representative James McDonald arrives from Seward and lingers at Gastineau Hotel.
