Montreal Aug 29 The Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry the first unit formed entirely from Native North Americans sails today from Montreal aboard the White Star liner Majestic with 1100 men to join the war effort.
The military information bureau reports British blockade forces off Cuxhaven and Helgoland have sunk at least two German cruisers, one named Mainz. Several German torpedo boat destroyers were badly damaged and others were forced to seek land fortifications after the engagement yesterday.
A British cruiser arrived at Nore with 200 German prisoners aboard, largely from the Mainz which was sunk by the British fleet off Cuxhaven at the mouth of the Elbe River.
Paris dispatches from Ostend say German casualties in the three days of fighting before capturing Charleroi totaled 60 000 killed and wounded.

Dr F M Goddard of Sanitarium bought the cruising launch E D M from Capt Charles McConaghey while in Juneau last week and plans to operate ferry service between Sanitarium and Sitka. Capt McConaghey returned on the Georgia after delivering the boat to its new base.
Daniel Smith Harris delegate to the non partisan convention arrived on the Mariposa and is staying at the Orpheum hotel. He will remain in Juneau until after the Democratic divisional convention four days later.

To accommodate revelers to the Black Sheep dance in Thane tonight, the 8 o'clock ferry from Juneau Douglas and Treadwell will be 15 minutes late. The 12:20 a.m. ferry from Thane will depart 40 minutes late, serving Thane Treadwell and Douglas.
Berlin Aug 29 German government orders to stop the Russian advance into Germany at once. First line troops to be reinforced by second reserve. Landstrum reservists rushed forward and eastward. Austrian corps withdrawn from the Servian border to reinforce against Russians.
St Petersburg reports that Russia has created an autonomous Polish government uniting Russian and Russian Poland with Austrian Poland to be added when feasible. Warsaw will be the seat of the new Polish government.
Washington reports James C. McReynolds was confirmed as Supreme Court Justice and T W Gregory as Attorney General today. The confirmations finalize major appointments in the administration.
Lord Roberts states Britain must mobilize many more hundreds of thousands of troops for the field, signaling intensified demand for manpower in the war effort.
Peking dispatch reports Japanese landing on the Kiaochou coast south of the bay was checked by fire from German forts. Outer defenses may fall, but inner works are strong. Japanese blockading fleet remains inactive and no general bombardment was attempted.
Chicago reports W R Rogers was arrested at Libertyville on a charge of killing his partner M H Wixon at Christmas creek near Haines Alaska on May 23 1913. The pair prospected and mined at Christmas creek four miles from Porcupine. Rogers surrendered to Deputy U S Marshal W S Hardling the next day claiming self defense. A coroners jury exonerated him at Haines on May 26 1915 before he left the country.
In a letter from St Wandville Abbey Maurice Maeterlinck requests a Belgian volunteer corps to join despite being 52, stating the enemy of mankind must be fought at all costs. He aids in harvest work in Normandy where only women and children remain.

ST PETERSBURG Aug 29 Russian aeroplanes flew over Lemberg yesterday and prepared maps of the city and approaches, signaling intensified air reconnaissance ahead of possible operations.
New York Aug 29 The French government has increased credit in New York through J P Morgan Co Paris house and opened talks with other banks in the United States with offices in France to establish additional credits here through them.
Secretary of the Treasury William G. McAdoo will deposit several million dollars in two New York National banks for foreign exchange transactions. If needed, Treasury deposits may be made in one or more sub-treasuries to reopen foreign exchange business.
