Secretary of Labor Perkins reports about 400000 factory workers returned to work in July and weekly wages rose by 29 million compared to March. An estimated 1100000 were re employed in manufacturing from March to July with 300000 workers moving to non manufacturing sectors. If gains persist, manufacturing pay would add about 390 million by year end.
Washington reports that about 200000 additional workers will be employed on public works projects. Congress approved 65 million dollars for the New York tri borough bridge and 44 million for 29 public buildings in 22 states plus 12000 for slum erasing and housing projects.
Washington Aug 18 Agreement on the principles of the oil industrial code has been reached at a White House conference between President Roosevelt Administrator Johnson and Secretary Ickes. Johnson said he believes the code will win full industry approval and Ickes said he is satisfied and expects the ideas to be in the code by tomorrow.
The Rainbow Girls will hold an initiation at the regular meeting tonight in the Scottish Rite Temple judge room. After the lodge ceremony a dance will follow in the temple ballroom with refreshments served.
Robert Clifford Heath and Helen Elizabeth Franklin were married in Fairbanks. The bride, lifelong Fairbanks resident educated in public schools and a graduate of Fairbanks High School and Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines, and the groom, a Fairbanks resident for several years, is engaged in mining.

Anchorage August 18 The Alaska Road Commission has received funds to extend highway northward to Ekhuitna and the Matanuska farming area. The move, part of National Public Works, aims to relieve unemployment. The Alaska Railroad advertises for extra gang men at 40 4 cents per hour with meals deducted under a 30 hour plan.

A cashier was knocked down in Vancouver and robbed of a large sum including cash and checks. The incident involved amounts of 11 000 to 12 000 in checks and 70 dollars in cash. Police are investigating the hold up and seeking witnesses.

The agents were said to be assigned to the case for life or until suspects are apprehended.
