Washington August 17 The naval limitation treaty and the Four Power Pacific pact from the Washington Armament conference became effective at noon today as representatives of all signatories and Solicitor Polk exchanged ratifications in the State Department. No public ceremony occurred. Scrapping of first line ships under the naval treaty begins immediately.
Seattle August 17 Chinchi Chad Japanese Consul says Japan is scrapping 14 war vessels under the Washington arms treaty. The list includes six battleships five cruisers and three defense ships. He says eight cruisers two aircraft carriers eleven destroyers thirteen submarines four gunboats and five special service ships remain under construction. The navy is said to be reduced to 600 officers 500 special service officers and 11000 men.
AIX LA CHAPPELLE Aug. 17 Communistic disturbances continue with eight killed and 60 injured in today s demonstrations while 15 persons injured in previous demonstrations have died.
The navy dirigible ZR-1, the largest of its kind, will be ready for indoor tests at Naval Air Station Lakehurst New Jersey next Monday with air tests likely to start around September 1. The craft aims to be the first to reach the North Pole in a historic expedition.
