The air liner Graf Zeppelin departed Friedrichshafen at 4:34 a m local time bound for Tokyo on the second leg of its round the world voyage. The ship carried 20 passengers a crew of 40 a cargo of mail oil and gasoline and large quantities of ballast and lifting gas.
The Graf Zeppelin aircraft carrier will follow a Pacific Northwest world tour route. On six hours notice, officials can bring the craft to earth at Fort Lewis, 12 miles south of Tacoma, if weather permits a deviation from its Tokyo to California mission.
Dawson City YT marks the thirty third anniversary of Klondike gold discovery with an address by MP George Black. In Washington the Senate Finance Committee approves a tariff amendment to permit free entry of manganese ore reversing a prior 7 to 4 vote.
London reports Labour women in England pressing on after May election gains. Dr. Marion Phillips leads an organized female wing, steering education, maternity and welfare work while backing world peace and international talks. The Women’s Peace crusade links Labour, Trades Union Congress and other groups, planning conferences and classes for working women.

Berlin reports a continent consumed by protests over debts prices and policies. Danzig marks Versailles Treaty anniversary while Poles and Danes clash over protest rights, and a Bavarian man ends his life over national troubles. A Sonnenburg climber cries for the Kaiser amid unrest.
Commissioner Henry O Malley reports Southeast Alaska total pack near 1 600 000 cases with red salmon surge and pink and chum runs strong. He notes only Karluk River and Cook Inlet areas unsatisfactory as the season nears end with closures set for North and South Prince of Wales Island districts.

Alexander Virginia August 1 The police ascribed the death of Wayne Arnold German aged 11 years to the explosion of a bottle of home brew. A glass fragment from the bottle lodged in his throat as he carried it to his father and he died while being rushed to a hospital.
Leonard Kip Rhinelander sues Alice Jones Rhinelander for divorce claiming she tricked him into marriage by domination and caused estrangement from family and friends. The complaint argues his youth and inexperience were taken advantage of. Genevieve Mulkey arrived to take a bookkeeper post at Prye Bruhn Co, relieving Florence Torgerson who resigned.
A severe electrical storm across Philadelphia and nearby counties causes four deaths from lightning. A young woman and a man at a packing plant in Monton New Jersey died. A Philadelphia schoolhouse worker, a hotel guest, and an autoist killed or missing as floods and rain-blinded driving caused a bridge crash into the Delaware River.
London reports progress in naval disarmament negotiations with Washington and hopes Ramay MacDonald will visit the United States in October after a Geneva Assembly session. A Geneva meeting and a luncheon with Ambassador Dawes on August 23 are slated to set formal terms for the Five Power Conference.
Dr. John B Lundy of Mayo Clinic Rochester described modern safeguards in surgery to reduce anesthesia hazards. He cited explosive gases and gas-tank misconnections and noted humidity control, colored tanks, and non interchangeable connectors to prevent errors. He mentioned strategies to ease patient fear during anesthesia and referenced chloroform use at Mayo and other centers.
