In Little Rock Aug 11 Mrs Hattie Caraway the Democrat is renominated by a two to one lead over rival Major Bodenhamer El Dorado former National Commander of the American Legion The vote nearly complete shows her position as the second woman in the U S Senate since her appointment after her husband’s death.
Admiral Richard E. Byrd's ship the Bear arrived at the Boston Navy Yard after a 22 day voyage from Oakland. Byrd, flanked by Army and Navy officials, expressed satisfaction with the vessel and its capacity to stay in one unit for the upcoming Antarctic expedition, slated to depart in about a year.
Crowds attack monarchist homes in Seville burning a hotel and officials. Gen. San Juaro, wounded and attempting to flee to Portugal with his son, is captured at the border after loyalists free the provincial governor and mayor from jail. Government orders arrests by summary court martial.
A Silver and Gold campus poll of fifty Boulder students finds 28 favor repeal of Prohibition, 12 favor enforcement, and 7 support modification. The group represents a cross section of student opinion from the campus.
New York report from the National Society for the Prevention of Blindness urges an outright ban on manufacturing and selling dangerous toys. The study notes about 500 blind students in schools now from toy related accidents and 750 to 1,000 annual eye injuries nationwide with around seventy children left permanently blind each year.
