The American losses in the Marne Aisne battle have risen to 3758, with 628 names listed yesterday. The Marine Corps accounts total 608 casualties. Most wounded are expected to return to duty. When all names are reported, total American casualties July 15 to now may reach 5000.
PARIS August 10 The American troops in the Solesons Rheims salient have captured Fismesette north of the Vesle river with hundreds of prisoners. They press forward with substantial gains and improved positions while artillery fights along the Aisne Vesle line.
With the Americans, Aug. 10, Allied forces report from July 18 to date reclaiming about 1500 square kilometers, over 200 villages and towns retaken, and a 33 mile front reduction, while combat persists.
German submarines are again reported off the coast. A German submarine sank the American schooner Stanley L. Seaman, bound for a foreign port, about 110 miles east of Cape Hatteras. The captain and eight crewmen were landed by a British vessel. A second note reports the Canadian schooner Gladys M. Hollett attacked by a diver off the Canadian coast and towed to port for repairs.
A ship carrying Allied supplies caught fire in New York Harbor as it prepared to sail. Sailors used water streams to flood the burning holds and stop the blaze. The vessel carried ammunition aboard and the incident halted its voyage.
London reports a German destroyer was sunk off Zeebrugge yesterday, believed to have struck a British mine. The loss adds to wartime naval engagements in the English Channel area.
