Seattle August 7 A Seattle Chamber of Commerce official reports growing inquiries about Alaska following a presidential party visit. C D Garfield Alaska bureau manager notes inquiries from nearly every state. News agencies show strong demand for Alaska pictures from eastern outlets.
Sweden's government replies to the League of Nations inquiry stating it cannot endorse a universal reciprocal guarantees pact while the United States, Germany, and Russia are not members. It argues the League lacks universality and strength to handle present international threats. It urges compulsory arbitration for judicial disputes and envisions future joint action against any disturber of political peace.
Henry Sullivan of Lowell Massachusetts finished his swim across the English Channel landing before the Calais Casino after 26 hours and 50 minutes covering nearly 60 miles. He becomes the third person to complete the feat following Captain Mathew Wedd in 1875 and T W Burgess in 1911, in Sullivan's seventh attempt.
In Montreal on August 7 a message from President Coolidge praised the Knights of Columbus as a patriotic order devoted to the American people and ideals. Thousands marched as the Forty first International convention opened with Supreme Knight Flaherty vowing to resist religious or racial bias and challenging the Ku Klux Klan or any opponent to produce a single fact to back their charges.
Topeka reports that a blood test taken from Governor Davis, ill with flu, shows results that look very suspicious of pneumonia. The physician confirms the governor is a very sick man.

The local Elks lodge invites state members to help erect a statue of Harding at Woodland Park Seattle. The late president gave the oath of allegiance to 50,000 boys there on July 27 during his Seattle visit.
Mexican Federal Forces ordered mobilization in Durango to capture bandit leader Juan Galinda and secure the release of kidnapped Robert Newman, in an operation announced from Mexico City on August 7.
In Los Angeles three alleged conspirators were arrested after a man was shipped in a box toward an American Express vault but escaped when other gang members demanded the box. In Indianapolis four men bound and gagged an Express messenger aboard a Big Four train and fled with $15,000 in railroad remittances near Peoria.
Secret Service estimated over a million people lined the funeral cortege route amid stormy, hazy skies in Washington as the train neared the capital. Delays disrupted reception plans in Chicago and at the White House end, with crowds awaiting the body as hundreds of visitors queued in the heat.
The program in the Capitol rotunda will begin at 11 o'clock. Rev A Freeman Anderson of Calvary Baptist Church will give the invocation. A male quartet will sing Lead Kindly Light followed by scripture selections and a prayer by Dr James Montgomery, House chaplain. The service ends with Nearer My God to Thee and a benediction by Rev Anderson.

Victory H Arnold a Madison banker and revivalist faces arraignment in Superior Wisconsin on an indictment accusing him of using the mails to defraud. The case cites losses near $600,000 from bonds and notes offered by his Madison Pond company amid revival campaigns in Madison and New York. He claims opposition by local business men and says he is a victim of a vicious circle.
