President Roosevelt sent a supplemental appropriation request to Congress for airfield improvements in Alaska. The plan calls for about 17 million dollars for the Civil Aeronautics Administration with emphasis on expanding Alaska air ports used by the Army Air Corps Weather Bureau and civil aviation. Assistant Secretary Robert Hinckley announced an additional 14 million dollars for civil and military airport construction in Alaska and recommended an airport at Skagway.
