Manhunt Ends as Ax-Killer Yonex Captured in Alaska
Leon W. Yonex, a 43 year old Vancouver, Washington carpenter, was captured ten miles from the Indian camp where two men were killed on July 20. U S Marshal S J Nichols says the arrest ends Alaska s largest manhunt. Yonex will be taken to Big Delta where he worked on a construction project. Victims were Donald R Harris of Big Delta and Carl Ahnstrom, a 20 year old trapper.

FATROANKS Alaska August 1 The death rate from tuberculosis is nine times higher among Alaska Natives and twice as high among whites compared with the United States says Dr Arthur Bernstein of Cook County Hospital Chicago. He based his statement on personal observation and Territorial records while leading a five man AMA team visiting Seward Bethel Unalakleet Nome Gambell Barrow and Tanana. The doctors urged funds for hospital beds and isolation of tubercular patients as a supplemental appropriation failed in Washington. They will return to Chicago around August 10 after visiting Sitka Juneau and Ketchikan. The Territorial convention chose Anchorage for next year’s meeting.
