The Legislature closes the House session with four Senate bills and a memorial, and two House measures, signaling no jam of legislation. Supporters expect smooth final disposition of the remaining three Senate measures and the appropriation bill, with no lengthy night session anticipated.
The Thetis, formerly the Dundee, veteran Arctic cruiser, is chartered by Conrad MacMillan as the second ship for his expedition to accompany Bowdoin next summer. The bow will transport scientists while Thetis carries navy planes and personnel. previously it rescued the Greeley expedition and served as a revenue cutter in Alaska.
Anchorage April 30. James Ek Wilson a pioneer freighter serving Dawson Fairbanks Valdez and Anchorage dropped dead at Pittman while hauling supplies to Willow Creek mines. A well known Westward Alaska figure and former Road Commissioner of the Third Division based in Valdez for over a decade he was about 55. Charles H Wilcox Speaker of the Territorial House called him a fine likable chap and noted his long road work record.
Ketchikan records a three second earthquake at 2 30 yesterday afternoon with no damage reported and no ascertainable direction of the quake.
Washington April 30 Florence Sabin, Johns Hopkins physiologist, is elected to life membership in the National Academy of Sciences becoming the first American woman so honored. Sabin has notable work on blood cells and related physiology.
San Francisco April 30 Three airplanes capable of 100 mile an hour travel inaugurate an air cab service between San Francisco and Fresno. The Checker Air Cab Service started the service today with planes that accommodate the pilot and two passengers.
Washington April 20 President Coolidge has accepted the resignation of Solicitor General James Beck. He will retire at an early date and is planning a trip to Europe during May.
PORTSMOUTH Ohio April 30 Engineer John Lively of Kentucky was killed and many passengers injured when a Chesapeake and Ohio passenger train wrecked near Quincy Kentucky last night.
London April 30 Airplanes and large flying boats are foreshadowed in a British Air Ministry book The Royal Air Force as in Career Predictions include machines with two or more high powered engines capable of long flights and carrying troops equipment or bombs at speeds over 100 miles an hour. Moscow reports Russia signed a 61 year contract with Lena Goldfields for Lena Field exploration in Siberia. Estimated at over 100 million dollars in gold, the Lena mines will be operated by the Soviet government but transferred to the British company. American bankers hold 50 percent of the investment. The concession covers mining operations across more than 1,000,000 acres.

A 15 year old messenger tackled Otto Schmidt on a Broadway stairway after Schmidt seized a satchel from another messenger. The satchel held securities valued at 65000 dollars. Schmidt was felled and police arrested him.
Seattle April 30 J D Blackwell City Engineer says the Skaglower Plant first unit cost 11 000 00 in bonds sold and 1000000 total. He cites 756000 for camp equipment and rail transport and notes C P Edson, dismissed after completion, did good work despite the low cost.
