Fourteen Men Rescued Alive From Idaho Mine Fire
In Wallace Idaho on April 25 fourteen Heela miners trapped at the 2000 foot level by a midnight fire were rescued at 3 22 yesterday afternoon. The crew extinguished the flames using a tunnel pump and escaped through the shaft area. The station at 2000 feet was destroyed with $10 000 in damage caused by a short circuit in the pumping plant. Mine veteran H R Astoff led the group and Ed Hamber spoke of the ordeal stating their breath became hard and the rescue proceeded as the fire came under control.
