Johnson to Read From Contemporary Poets for English Club

Prof A E Johnson of the speech department will present a half hour program titled Readings from Contemporary Poets before the English club and guests in the geology lecture room next Tuesday at 7 pm. His work in lecture-recital has been praised in New York and the west coast. Students and faculty are invited to attend. this is the English club's second literary event.

Keyes Discusses Black Hawk Life and Autobiography

Dr. R. Keyes described the Life of Black Hawk in a chapel talk, noting Black Hawk’s respect for true heroes and lack of regard for untrained volunteers. He said the 1838 autobiography, republished by the Iowa Historical Society, offers insight into the Indian leader’s mindset and guiding principles, including his honor toward the man who defeated him, Brigadier General Atkinson.

Eighteen Members Dine as Latin Club Holds Talk

Eighteen members of the Latin club gathered at the Baker house for dinner last night. President Alice Younkee announced the year’s program as Prof. Mark Hutchinson, Latin instructor, spoke on similarities between California and Italy, comparing ancient Greek Olympics with recent games in California, illustrated with pictures.

Craftwork Is Art Club Plan Tonight

Open Night for Creation will run from 7 to 8 this evening at the Art studio. Miss Nama Lathe, head of the department, says the event invites all people to try crafts such as linoleum cutting drawing painting and soap carving in a casual, creative setting.

Several Cornellians Will Join Local M. E. Church

The Rev BE T Gough expects over a dozen Cornell students to affiliate with the local Methodist church this Sunday. Affiliation does not affect prior membership in home churches, and out-of-town students of any denomination will be welcomed.

Freshmen at the campus receive green caps and hair ribbons as a sophomores driven tradition. Caps are reportedly one size fits all and may shrink. Freshmen endure staged humor stunts, altered makeup and backward stair climbs while Bow man and Pfeiffer entertain.

Later Hours Set for Cornell Women Saturday Nights

Cornell women will have closing hours of 11 p.m. one night weekly, Saturday, under A W S announcements at house meetings Wednesday. The A W S board also tightened campus rules for campers, banning attendance at college functions and limiting privileges.

Cornell College plans a campus wide Mothers and Dads Day on October 15 the day of the Cornell Simpson football game. On Friday September 30 Grinnell hosts football followed by events including a W A A party on Friday October 7. October 8 features a football game with ISTC and October 22 a Myrtlemouth game with football. Parents’ Day arrives October 15 and Homecoming football against Coe closes the slate. Hay Fever cast auditions begin for Homecoming play
