Freshmen Line Strong as Last Year's Star Reports for Practice

In Ash Park scrimmage the varsity beat the Freshmen six to nil. Allen son scored the lone TD after a 30 yard run. Varsity backfield Busenbark Zehr Jensen Milholm powered through the line while Freshmen stifled by fumbles and limited passes. Jensen at quarterback replacing Hillene due to a knee injury. Freshmen Willis Coppess led for his class. Walt Lott returns to boost the squad with steady football experience.

Cross country enrollment climbs at planned meet

Interest grows in the fall cross country program as the third year of the branch attracts nearly fifty men signed up with more expected this week. Captain Walk continues the report on page.

Miss Irvine Opens the Lecture Course at Cornell College

The season begins with Miss Theodora Ursula Irvine reading The Passing of the Third Floor Back. Irvine, NY City, Northwestern and Cumnock alumna, former director of Cornell College Oratory, offers a dramatic reading praised for its engaging staging and uplifting moral. The next event features William J. Burns in December with more lectures to follow by Col. G. C. Shields.

Two Societies Begin Their Rush Parties

Aesthesians host a reception in the Aesthesian Hall for members and new girls with candlelit ambiance and asters for decoration. Meanwhile the Philos entertain at West's in this formal social start to the season.

Y M C A Holds Reception For New Men

The Y M C A held a college reception Wednesday evening in the gymnasium. Prof Kiester spoke on the effort behind an education, urging respect for faculty. Paul Busenbark urged athletic participation and invited men to join the association. Prof Keyes shared German seminar experiences, stressing forming college friendships. Prof Fingers then stressed athletics in a course.

Rhodes Scholarship Examination Soon at Iowa City

Examinations for the Rhodes scholarship will be held at the University of Iowa on October 14 and 15. A five‑member committee of college presidents will select Iowa’s candidate to study at Oxford later in the year. John G. Bowman chairs the committee. seven Iowa alumni have previously won the award. Candidates must be unmarried, 19 to 25 years old, and have completed at least their sophomore year.
