Four Lecture Course Events Announced

Agna Enters opens the Cornell Lecture Series October 31 as America’s greatest one woman show with Broadway success. Eva Jessye Choir performs November 14 directed by Eva Jessye famed choral director. February 19 features Paul Leyssas Danish translator of Hans Christian Andersen with music setting. March 2 Dr Paul Popenoe on sex and family relations author of social biology research. Booking for the season not yet complete.

Seniors Teach In Local High School

Fourteen seniors are student teaching at Mount Vernon High School. English teachers include Ruth Weber Virginia Mergy Gertrude Hargreaves Margaret Roberts Ruth Mason and Gwyneth Young. Mathematics: Marion Wetzel Richard DeWitt Sociology: Richard Heine Gertrude Hargreaves Commerce: Mary Miller Home economics: Ellen Louise Stewart Geraldine Cook Louise McColm Tunice Wallace teaches Latin at Lisbon High School.

Cornell counts 312 women and 312 men enrolled this year

Final registration shows 312 women and 312 men at Cornell. Freshmen include 107 women and 111 men, sophomores 96 women and 78 men, juniors 59 women and 71 men, seniors 45 women and 48 men, with nine special students. Notable entrants include Rebecca Wellens, Rebecca’s parents missionaries in Lucknow India, and Ernest Solmits a German refugee from Scattergood near West Branch. Dorothy Duke from Pasadena California traveled the most miles in the states.

Summer Marriages Among Cornell Alumni Mark a Busy Season

A summer wave of Cornell alumni weddings filled June through August with numerous ceremonies. Notables include Harriet Lewis and Branklin Littell in Great Falls, and Helen Hunt and William Ken nel in Kirkwood Missouri. Other couples tied the knot in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Mount Vernon, and Dixon among the graduates and their attendants.

Display Work Of 2 Iowans

Don Rhodes a young Iowa artist shows fifteen drawings watercolors and oils in Armstrong hall through October 6. Rhodes painted a mural in the Horticultural building at the 1939 Iowa State fair and has a mural in Marion post office. His Hod Carrier won a prize at the show opening. Kate Keith Van Duzee of Dubuque will display local color scenes from around Dubuque. A Cornell Alumni exhibit follows through Parent's Day and Homecoming.

Cornellians Attend Upper Town Conference Banquet

Cornellians joined the Upper Town Conference of the Methodist Church in Clinton last week. Dr. Magee led activities at the conference and spoke at the banquet where W G Rowley served as toast master. Delegates were chosen for the April general conference in Atlantic City New Jersey.

Advisory Council To Meet Friday Picnic at Pal

The Advisory Council will hold its first meeting and a picnic at the Pal next Friday September 29 from 4 30 until 8 00. It aims to get acquainted and discuss current policies and problems of Cornell life.

Neutrality Topic at International Club Tonight

The International Club opens with a panel discussion at 7:00 in Dr Littell's room on whether the United States should revise the Neutrality Act. Dick Grumman argues against aid to belligerents, Bill Dean defends current neutrality, and Francis Allen supports cash and carry. General discussion follows. Freshmen are invited by President Marjorie Littell.

Cornell Homecoming Presents You Cant Take It With You

Homecoming play You Cant Take It With You will be staged Thursday October 26 and Saturday October 28 at Cornell. The production topped the Summer Theatre season with strong audience response. Summer cast members Lamont Oakley Ruth Weber Hugh Muncy Ben Hoover Blanche Hamm Craig Houston and Jo Beadle return, with rest of cast to be announced and rehearsals starting now.

Landon to Key Inauguration at Cornell College

Alfred M. Landon former Kansas governor will speak at the inauguration of Dr John Benjamin Magee as Cornell College eighth president on Friday Oct 27. The three day events include homecoming and all school convocation with Dr Georgia Harkness as Sunday speaker.

New Cornell Band Debuts At First Dance Of Year

A newly formed Cornell dance band led by Fred Leigh and J Wheatley Paulger debuts at the year’s first regular dance. The roster features four lettermen and several freshmen continuing to gain experience as they aim for a slower, sweeter sound and crowd-pleasing requests.
