Quintet Chosen for Cornell Cross-Country Meet With Iowa

George Smith of Center Junction selected as captain after the 3.5 mile tryouts. James Searle Hawarden finishes second, followed by Gail Yohe Jose Valencia Fred Kleemier Herbert Faust and Warren Bieber. The Iowa City meet is set for October 92 with Cornell to race Saturday.

Conservatory Faculty Recitals Set for Season

The Cornell music faculty announce a season of recitals led by John Conrad returning after a Cornell spell with a November 16 appearance. Clara Eness will present her first recital in January. Mr and Mrs Shaw planned for a piano violin sonata program. additional recitals by Miss Pierce Mr Hoffman and Mr Miller are planned.

Cornell Football Schedule Highlights Key Nov. 19 Clash

The schedule lists Cornell at home to Drake on Oct. 22 and Dubuque on Oct. 29 with results showing Cornell beat Upper Iowa 20 to 6 on Oct. 1 and crushed Hamline 18 to 2 on Oct. 8. Other bouts include Cornell 27 Iowa Wesleyan 7 at Mt. Pleasant on Oct. 14 and road trips to Grinnell and Cedar Rapids later in the season.

Journalism club elects officers at Cornell meeting

The Journalism club at Cornell elected Myron Arbuckle president and Rall Gatewood treasurer at a Tuesday meeting. A social committee will be appointed soon and the year will feature social and instructional functions. A tea honoring Iona Gale ushered the program. The club plans to entertain visiting figures connected to the English club.

With Homecoming two weeks away, the bleachers project advances despite rain. Armstrong Spear reports steady progress while Professor Moots notes cement work should start midweek and finish in 12 to 15 days. Casts Chosen For Homecoming One-Act Plays

Professor Tull selects casts for three English club one act plays to be staged Homecoming Saturday night in the auditorium. Dorothy Bateman and Genevra Sturdevant return in Honor Bound with Mr. Tull and Day Newsom. Little Guttersnipe features Mr. and Mrs. Tull. Room 83 stars Mildred Court Ona Kating Walter Averill and Karl Kettering. Rehearsals start this week. Miss Winifred Tansen travels to Franklin Grove Illinois for the weekend.

Freshman Sophomore Rope Battle Ends in Losses for Frosh Teams

Three frosh teams representing light, middle, and heavy weights faced sophomores in a 1:30 p.m. Thursday duel. The middleweights went first, sophomores pulling from the south bank, lasting three minutes as frosh failed to convert. The bantams then battled six minutes with frosh ultimately defeated, followed by the huskies event where the older group dominated.

Frances Crowell Opens Junior Recital Series Next Wednesday

Frances Crowell begins a five part Junior recital series in the department of expression with a four o'clock reading of The Faraway Princess by Herman Suderman in the lower chapter. The series will alternate with student music recitals two weeks apart.

Freshmen Fall 6 3 to Tipton Legion team

The Tipton American Legion squad edged the visiting freshmen 6 to 3. Hartwell drop kicked a late score for the frosh, but fumbles and ragged play marked the game as both sides battled for control.

Fireside Teas 10 Begin Tomorrow at Bowman Hall

All college women especially freshmen are urged to chat over tea cups from 3 to 4 30 Sunday afternoon in Bowman Hall. Men are forbidden to attend this dormitory tea noting last year’s strict dress and racial style among Cornellians. If successful similar teas may be held in other dormitories and large town houses to refresh all Cornellians.

Freshman Societies to Organize on Campus This Fall

Emeraldians and a new men s organization that lacked a name last year are poised to form distinct freshman societies. Plans were discussed Thursday night and formation will be completed soon. Last year the girls society held bi monthly programs and a Thanksgiving debate. Dorothy Scaggs and Marie Potraz are visiting DeWitt for the weekend.

Cornell Edges Iowa Wesleyan 27 to 7 on Mt Pleasant

Cornell defeated Iowa Wesleyan 27 to 7 as Kirwin Ensign and Bieber sparked the Purple offense. Wesleyan showed weakness on both sides as Cornell dominance through the line and swift backs produced multiple scores including a punt return.

Dr W S Hall Lectures On Personal Hygiene At Campus

Scientist and lecturer Dr Winfield Scott Hall will address Mt Vernon high school students at 10:30 and 11:00 am on October 19 in chapel. He speaks to college women at 4:30 pm and to college men at 6:40 pm in Miltonian hall on topics including Ideal Womanhood and Efficient Manhood.
